Here are answers to the most commonly asked questions.  If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact me.

What is coaching?
Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their potential. Coaches help people keep their eye on the prize and take action to enhance the quality of their lives. Coaches are trained to listen, to observe and to customize their approach to individual client needs. They seek to elicit solutions and strategies from the client; they believe the client has all of the answers inside of them. The coach's job is to provide support and help the client make changes to achieve their goals.

What is the difference between a coach and a therapist?
A Coach focuses on an individual’s life as it relates to setting goals, creating results, and managing personal change.  A Therapist concentrates more on why a certain behavior is occurring.

If I have a therapist can I also have a coach?
Absolutely.  Since coaches and therapists have different approaches, it is often helpful to have both.

How do I know whether coaching is right for me?
Coaching works best when you have sufficient time, resources and enthusiasm to make plans to move forward. I recommend you take this quiz to help you discern whether coaching is the right option for you right now.
The next step is to schedule a FREE 30-minute consultation with me. We'll discuss your situation and decide if there would be a good match between what you want and what I have to offer.
It's very important to me that the people who contact me get the support that is appropriate for them, whether or not that is coaching from me. I refer people to other coaches, therapists, and online resources as needed.

What happens after I decide to hire you as my coach?
I send you an initial assessment form to complete which is designed to help you focus on what you want to achieve through coaching and to help me understand how best to work with you. Typically we spend the first coaching session discussing the form and deciding what to focus on in our next session. We also set our next appointment time.

How would our coaching sessions take place, in person or on the phone?
I do both.  I meet with local clients in person and the rest I coach over the phone.   This way I can coach clients all over the United States.  I also provide email support in between coaching appointments.

How often do we meet, and how long is each session?
Typically we would meet once a week.  This helps provide you with the regular support needed to achieve your goals.  Sessions are 55 minutes each.

What happens during a coaching session?
As a graduate of the Life Purpose Institute, I use the 7-step process for results designed to help clients achieve their goals.  Therefore during each session I ask questions, listen, offer feedback, help uncover blocks, and brainstorm ideas with you. Typically each session ends with action items for you to complete before our next session.  We can also address spot issues as they arise.

Do you assign "homework" to do between coaching sessions?
Most coaching sessions end with action items for you to complete before our next session. You and I decide on these items together. Frequently I will suggest an "assignment" that may take you out of your comfort zone somewhat, in support of a goal you have or direction in which you want to go.

Can you tell me how much weight I need to lose?
No, I can't, and even if I thought I could, I wouldn't! My job is to support you as you identify your own goal weight based on healthy guidelines. I can help you come up with options to explore and give you resources so you can do your own research and investigation.

What are your coaching qualifications?
Center for Credentialing & Education, Board Certified Coach (BCC)
Life Purpose Institute, Certified Life Coach
International Sports Sciences Association, Certified Fitness Trainer

How do your clients describe you as a coach? What's your style?
Clients typically describe my coaching style as warm, empathetic, compassionate, funny and inspiring.
Since my job is to help you get out of a rut, create new ideas, create order out of chaos, and help you get moving, I offer feedback, insights and ask questions that at times seem blunt, but are always delivered kindly!
For details about my background, see my story.

How do I pay you for coaching?
Coaching sessions must be paid in advance of the session and can be submitted by check or cash.

Is coaching covered by my insurance?
Unfortunately because coaching is not a mental health service, it is not a covered service under health insurance plans.

How do we know when it's time to end coaching?
When we begin the coaching partnership, I ask you to write down what you want to achieve through coaching. We track our progress as the session’s progress and decide at the end of each month whether to continue coaching the following month, take a break, or celebrate all that you have achieved and end the coaching partnership.
